Axillectomy, also known as good lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that focuses on changing the shape of the armpits while tightening the skin.
This can be done as an isolated procedure alone or in combination with breast lift or breast reduction.
The main goal of axilloplasty is to remove excess skin and fat from the armpits to tighten the skin.
Below we will discuss what axilloplasty is and what it involves. If you're wondering whether axilloplasty could be something for you, we recommend Book an appointment for a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons.

Axilloplasty (bra lift) is a surgical procedure that changes the shape and tightens the skin in the armpit. With our Klinikk A method, we also achieve an effect on the skin of the upper back. This can be a good alternative to an upper body lift, where the scars are well camouflaged in the armpit instead of on the back. Axilloplasty is often performed in combination with breast surgery, usually a breast lift or breast reduction.
Axilloplasty may be appropriate in several cases. Patients who are suitable for this operation primarily have loose skin in the armpit. Many also have fullness in the armpit, which can also be treated at the same time. This condition can cause discomfort in the form of bra insertion with folds over the bra, despite attempts to optimize the bra. Furthermore, some patients have excess skin and folds on the back in the area where the bra strap would normally fall. Historically, folds on the back have often been treated with a so-called upper body lift. With the method we have developed at Klinikk A, we can also achieve a reduction and tightening of this part of the back, without it being placed on the back. Creases in the armpits and on the back sometimes occur in patients who have undergone major weight loss, either of their own accord or after gastric bypass or similar.
Axilloplasty can be combined with a breast lift or breast reduction. The armpit is close to the breast, and if there is an indication for both a breast lift or breast reduction and an axilloplasty at the same time, it is an advantage to perform this at the same time, both for practical and aesthetic reasons, while you only get one rehabilitation course, not two.
The results of an axilloplasty are long-lasting and you will see an immediate change in the shape and firmness of the armpit. There is a significant reduction in excess skin and fullness in the armpit, but also to some extent on the upper back. It takes a long time before you can assess the final result, but in our experience, there is a high level of satisfaction with the result after these operations. Your surgeon will discuss all the options with you and help you choose the best treatment for your needs.
All surgeries carry a risk of complications. However, the absolute risk of complications after axilloplasty is low.
Any bleeding usually occurs before you leave the clinic, but can also occur at home, usually within the first two days after the procedure. This type of bleeding is caused by the operation and is most often the result of a small vein opening up after the operation. Bleeding is usually marked by rapid bursting and swelling on the side in question. The bleeding itself is usually on the inside of the skin and is not dangerous, but may require a reoperation. The surgeon will then remove the blood and stop the bleeding.
Our surgeons are available 24 hours a day, all year round in connection with the treatments that have been performed. If such bleeding is treated quickly and correctly, this complication will have no impact on the end result. To prevent this type of bleeding after surgery, it is important that you follow the advice you are given in connection with the operation, read the information letter you have received carefully and stay calm during the first period after the procedure.
With axilloplasty, the surgical wounds may open slightly after the operation. This is not dangerous and wounds that open in this way usually heal well without long-term problems.
Increasing redness, swelling, tenderness, secretion of pus from the surgical wound or general malaise may be signs of infection. In this case, the surgical wound must be inspected by the surgeon. Sometimes a change of wound is all that is needed, and it is often treated with antibiotics.
Some people experience an altered sensation in the skin above the scar. The sensation can be both reduced and intensified, almost slightly hypersensitive to touch. In the vast majority of cases, the sensation normalizes over time.
Cosmetic surgery does not entitle you to sick leave. This means that you have to take time off work for the time you are at home after the operation. Axilloplasty is sometimes combined with breast reduction, which, if medically indicated, entitles you to sick leave. During a preoperative consultation, the surgeon will assess whether you are entitled to sick leave.
There is little information about axillectomy on Norwegian websites. If you are wondering if this could be something for you, get in touch by phone, email, contact form or book an appointment in our online booking.
