The laser develops heat and this heat "melts" the fat, which is then sucked out. This is a method we do not recommend as we have unfortunately seen very variable results and also serious complications. Contrary to what the name suggests, smartlipo is not a smart method.

Laser lipolysis is liposuction with a laser. The laser light generates heat to "melt" the fat so that it can be sucked out. The laser itself sits on the tip of the cannula.
Laser combined with liposuction may sound appealing, but the truth is that this is a very advanced form of liposuction, where it is easy to be left with uneven results.
The laser itself is not harmless, and heat damage can quickly occur in the treated tissue. We have seen the most serious cases in hospitals, where patients have been admitted with acute heat damage to the skin, where circulation has completely ceased. These patients have ended up with large scars, unevenness and results no one is happy with.
No, smartlipo is not more gentle than other liposuction.
The Norwegian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Norwegian Association of Plastic Surgeons and several hospital departments have filed complaints against several rogue companies that market smartlipo and laser lipolysis as more gentle than other liposuction.
Several of these rogue operators also offer discounts on treatment, which is not permitted in Norway. Such marketing is directly incorrect and misleading, and violates the regulations on marketing for aesthetic and cosmetic surgery.
Liposuction is a plastic surgery operation. This means that you, as a patient, should make sure that the person performing liposuction is a specialist in plastic surgery.
If the surgeon who is treating you is a member of the Norwegian Association for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, you must be treated by a surgeon who is a specialist in plastic surgery.
Despite the fact that liposuction is a plastic surgery operation, there are doctors in Norway who offer liposuction without being specialists in plastic surgery. Therefore, ask your surgeon if he or she is a specialist in plastic surgery.
As far as we know, none of the large and reputable clinics in Norway perform laser lipolysis or smartlipo.
The reason for this is that smartlipo and laser lipolysis are not considered the best methods. If they were, all clinics would be using them.
Unfortunately, the results and safety of these methods are unpredictable. That's why most people opt for traditional liposuction, without the use of lasers or other energy.
Whatever type of liposuction you are considering, the operation should be performed in a proper operating room. Our operating rooms meet hospital standards, ensuring the highest level of hygiene.
If you have any doubts about whether the premises are of a high enough standard or are unsure about the competence of those who will carry out the treatment, we recommend that you find a reputable clinic. Choose a clinic that follows all guidelines to ensure your safety and security. Ask if the surgeon is a member of the Norwegian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (NFEP). Members of the NFEP are specialists in plastic surgery, which ensures that they have the necessary formal expertise.
