Before surgery
- The consultation ensures that liposuction is the right method for you.
- You must fast and follow hygiene routines such as washing with Hibiscrub.
- Discuss goals, expectations and get guidance from your surgeon.
Consultation and preparation
Before liposuction of the abdomen and hips, a consultation with a plastic surgeon is necessary. Here your wishes and needs are clarified, and the surgeon makes recommendations based on individual assessments. If you live far from the clinic, the consultation can be conducted via Teams.
You will need to fast from food and drink six hours before surgery, but water can be drunk up to two hours before. It is also important to wash thoroughly with Hibiscrub in preparation.
During surgery
- The operation takes 1-2 hours and is usually performed under general anesthesia.
- Fat is permanently removed using thin cannulas.
- Small scars of 10 mm are closed with 1-2 stitches.
The procedure itself
The operation is performed under general anesthesia, where the fatty tissue is removed by vacuum through small cannulas. Prior to the procedure, the area is filled with a liquid that prepares the tissue for liposuction. Small scars of less than 10 mm are left, usually 3-5 on the abdomen and 2-4 on the hip waist, and these are sewn with stitches that are removed after 1-2 weeks.
After surgery
- Minimal discomfort is experienced in the first few days.
- Compression garments are used to support healing.
- Gradual activity is resumed after 2-3 weeks.
The first time after surgery
fter surgery, you will be transferred to a post-operative ward. Some discomfort is common during the first few days, but pain is rare. Compression garments ensure the best possible results, and showering is recommended 3-4 days after surgery at the earliest.
Swelling and unevenness in the operated area is normal in the beginning and decreases over time. The final result can only be seen after 3-12 months.
Exercise and activity
- Light walking and activity is recommended already after 1 week.
- Avoid heavy lifting and intense exercise for the first 4 weeks.
- Full training can be resumed after 4-6 weeks, depending on the body's healing.
The compression garment supports the tissue during activity and helps to reduce swelling. Listen to your body and gradually increase your activity level.
Office workers can normally expect to return to work the day after surgery, but we recommend that you have the opportunity to rest a little extra and be able to lie down to rest a little, especially in the first week after surgery.
Controls and follow-up
The first check takes place after 7-14 days. Further checks are scheduled after 3-12 months to assess the final result.
Stitch removal and tape: Micropore tape can be left in place until it falls off by itself, or until the stitches are removed. Stitches are usually removed 7-14 days after surgery under the supervision of Klinikk A.
The stitches can be removed by your GP if you live far away.

This can be purchased at Klinikk A, where our staff will make sure it fits the patient's needs and the area in question. If you already have compression garments from previous surgeries, these can be considered for use.
Wound care and showering
- When can you shower?: We recommend that patients wait 3-4 days before showering for the first time. At this point, the absorbent dressing is removed, while the Micropore tape remains in place.
- How to shower?:
- Remove the compression garment and absorbent bandage.
- Shower your body as usual with shampoo and soap. Be sure to rinse well.
