Different areas of the body

Belly liposuction

The most common areas for liposuction on the upper body are the abdomen and hip-waist. Other areas that may be relevant are the chest (in men and sometimes women), armpits and back cushions. Liposculpture corrects fat deposits in these areas, and very often gives satisfactory results.

Liposculpture of the neck, so-called Buffalo Hump, can be corrected with liposculpture and gives a natural and satisfactory result.

Liposuction Arms

Practical information - liposuction

Liposuction removes fat permanently

Liposuction is an effective method for permanent fat removal. Using thin needles and small incisions in the skin, an experienced surgeon can safely remove fatty tissue with good results. Liposuction can therefore shape the body and is therefore also called liposculpture. Areas that cannot be slimmed down

Areas that can be treated with liposuction

The most common areas for liposuction include the abdomen, hip and waist, back cushions, armpits, outer thighs, inner thighs, inner knees, front thighs, calves, ankles, upper arms, chin and neck.
Other operations are often combined with liposuction, such as skin and muscle tightening on the abdomen (abdominoplasty), skin tightening on the arms and legs (armplasty and thighplasty) and breast surgery. The fat that is removed can also be reused in your own body in a so-called fat transplant. In this case, the fat removed by liposuction is put back into other areas of the body, for example for breast augmentation with your own fat or in the buttocks (BBL - Brazilian Butt Lift).

Lipodystrophy - uneven distribution of fat tissue

Patients with lipodystrophy, i.e. uneven distribution of fatty tissue, can benefit from liposuction. Lipodystrophy is a medical condition in which fatty tissue is unevenly distributed throughout the body. For example, some people may have more fat on their thighs and calves than on their upper body, while others have larger fat deposits on their arms than on the rest of their body. Some have slender arms and legs, but clearly more fat on the upper body. Often these patients also have areas with very little fatty tissue, which makes the fat deposits more visible. The difference in fullness between the areas with lipodystrophy and the areas with normal fullness usually remains unchanged, regardless of whether the patient gains or loses weight. These "problem areas" can be, for example, below the navel, around the hips and waist, or on the outside of the thighs. However, lipodystrophy can occur almost anywhere on the body.

Many of our patients have tried both exercise and diet for a long time, but have not achieved the desired results. The typical problem areas that often remain are the stomach, hips, waist or thighs. With liposuction, we can permanently remove the fatty tissue in these areas.

Medical conditions with uneven fat distribution

There are several medical conditions with uneven distribution of subcutaneous fat. This can occur as a result of injury, after previous surgery or as a result of regular injection of insulin in diabetic patients or spontaneously as so-called lipodystrophy, see section above. Uneven fat distribution as a result of these medical conditions can lead to physical and distressing symptoms in the form of retractions, difficulty in finding clothes that fit and unevenness that makes it difficult to wear normal clothes. Some of these cases may also fall under conditions that are treated in public hospitals. Our surgeons are very familiar with the guidelines for public treatment. Patients who are wondering if they have a public indication for surgery can get an assessment from our plastic surgeons. Book an appointment here.

Liposuction can be performed on several areas during a single operation

Liposuction is often performed on several areas during the same operation. If possible, it can be beneficial to combine adjacent areas. Examples of this are front abdomen and hip waist, inner thigh and outer thigh or chin and abdomen. There are limits to how many areas can be liposuctioned during the same operation. If the areas are too large, we will not be able to treat the areas in question properly, with safe and good results. In such cases, we have to divide the treatment into several operations. There should be at least two weeks between each operation. We recommend a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons to clarify what may be relevant for the individual patient.

How do you proceed if you are considering liposuction?

If you are considering liposuction, we recommend a non-binding consultation with one of our plastic surgeons. You will then receive information about which treatment may be suitable for you, what the treatment entails and how much it costs. You will also receive answers to any questions you may have. If you live far away from Klinikk A, we can also arrange a Team Consultation. Book an appointment here.

Price liposuction

The price of liposuction depends on the area to be treated. Often several areas are treated at the same time. If there are overlapping areas to be treated, this may result in a reduced total price for the areas in question. During a consultation with our plastic surgeons, you will find out what may be relevant for you and what the cost of such treatment may be. Click here for our plastic surgery prices.

Adipose tissue can be transplanted to other areas of the body

Adipose tissue removed by liposuction can be transplanted to other areas of the body. This means that the fat tissue can be used to shape other areas. The most common areas for fat grafting are breast and buttock augmentation, but we also often do it for reconstruction after scars on the face and elsewhere on the body. The fat is integrated where it is transplanted and, as for most people, about 70 % of the transplanted tissue will "stick".

The properties of fat mean that it can add volume, but it can also have skin-enhancing properties. In adipose tissue, we have a relatively high incidence of stem cells. Stem cells have the ability to soften scar tissue and often result in improved skin quality.

After an ordinary liposuction, the fat that is removed is handled as special waste. This means that the fat goes to an incineration plant and is treated according to strict waste management rules.

Where is the operation performed?

The operation is carried out at Klinikk A's premises in Oslo. We are located in delicate premises with easy access both by car and public transport. Our operating rooms are at hospital level, with the highest international standards.

How long does an operation take?

The duration of liposuction varies depending on whether there are one or more areas to be treated and whether other operations will be performed at the same time. During a consultation, we will be able to inform you about the expected duration of the operation.

Can multiple areas be liposuctioned at the same time?

Yes, it is common to liposuction several areas at the same time. Which areas are suitable for simultaneous liposuction is assessed for each individual patient. The cost of the operation is also affected by whether there are multiple areas to be treated at the same time.

Can fat tissue come back after liposuction?

Liposuction is a permanent removal of fatty tissue. This means that the fat cells that have been removed will be gone forever. However, there will still be fat cells left in the area that has been treated with liposuction. The remaining tissue may increase and decrease in volume with any weight gain or loss, but the areas that have undergone liposuction will always have proportionally less volume compared to before surgery.
