Breast lift

Brystkirurgi Brystløft

Breasts can develop sagging for various reasons. A properly performed breast lift is an operation that lifts the breast and the position of the nipples, which also changes the shape of the breast.

A breast lift is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. In a breast lift, the surgeon removes excess skin and lifts the breast up to the desired level. In most cases, the nipple itself will also be repositioned so that the position is harmonious. We generally recommend that women finish breastfeeding before undergoing this type of surgery.

To assess whether a breast lift is right for you, we recommend a no-obligation consultation with one of our plastic surgeons. Book an appointment here.

Practical information for patients

Here is some practical information for you as a patient at Klinikk A. All of this will also be reviewed when you visit us for a consultation.

Before surgery

Prior to breast lift surgery, it's a good idea to think about a few things.

  • Be prepared for the consultation: Book a non-binding consultation with us. You can expect us to discuss your expectations of the result, medical conditions and together we will find the best solution for you. Be open to the possibility that the best solution may be something other than what you envision.
  • Fasting and medication: On the day of surgery, you must fast for at least 6 hours before surgery (do not eat or drink). Avoid smoking in the last 6 weeks before surgery. Avoid alcohol in the last week before surgery.
Blood-thinning medication should be avoided, and you should discuss this with your doctor in advance if you are taking any special medication. All these steps will increase the chance of a good result and minimize risk.
  • What you should have ready before surgery: Wear clothes that are easy to put on, preferably with front buttons or zippers, and make sure you have someone to pick you up after the operation.

During surgery

On the day of your surgery, we'll make sure you're safe and well taken care of. See feedback from our patients further down.

  • Anesthesia: Breast lifts are performed under general anesthesia, so you will be asleep during the procedure and will not feel any discomfort.
  • The length of the operation: The operation itself usually takes 2-3 hours, depending on your individual treatment.
  • The procedure: The surgeon will remove excess skin and tighten the breasts, giving you a natural shape and appearance.
  • Awakening: After the operation, you wake up in our post-operative ward. There, we'll make sure you're comfortable and help you with pain relief, if necessary.

After surgery

Proper care and rest are important to ensure the best possible results.

  • Control: The first check-up is after 7-14 days, where we remove the bandage and assess the healing.
Then you'll have follow-up checks after 3-6 months to make sure everything is going as planned.
  • Downtime: You should plan for a few days of rest after surgery. For most people, 4-14 days will be sufficient.
  • Avoid heavy lifting and physical activity, but light walking is recommended to keep the body moving.
  • Exercise and activity: For the first two weeks after surgery, you should avoid lifting your elbows above shoulder height.
You can gradually increase your activity, and after 6-8 weeks you can resume training as usual.
  • Stop care: The tape applied during surgery should not be removed before the first check-up. Follow the advice you are given on scar care to ensure your scars are as neat as possible.

Frequently asked questions about breast lifts

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that lifts and tightens the breasts by removing excess skin. The nipples can also be moved to create a more harmonious position.

Who is suitable for a breast lift?

Women who experience sagging breasts due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss are good candidates. It is recommended that you finish breastfeeding before surgery.

How are the scars after a breast lift?

The scars will be around the nipples and in a vertical T-cut. Our surgeons work to minimize scars and they will fade over time.

Can I combine a breast lift with breast augmentation?

Yes, it is possible to combine a breast lift with silicone prostheses or your own fat, depending on your wishes and needs. This is considered during the consultation.

How long does it take to recover from a breast lift?

Most people return to normal activity after 7-14 days, but heavy physical activity should be avoided for 6-8 weeks.

Is a breast lift painful?

Some experience discomfort in the first few days, but pain relief is offered. Most people describe the discomfort as moderate.

Before and after pictures of a breast lift

It is not permitted to show before and after pictures on websites in Norway. During the consultation, however, it is permitted to show before and after pictures. The surgeon can then show examples of patients who have undergone similar operations.

How can I book a consultation?

You can easily book a non-binding consultation via our website or contact us directly to find the best time for you.
