Types of Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery can be divided into two main types: reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Both types have different purposes and techniques.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery aims to improve the appearance of a person. This could be to correct a congenital anomaly, to improve self-image or to achieve a more youthful appearance.

Examples of cosmetic surgery include breast augmentation, liposuction, facelift, nose surgery and eyelid surgery.

It's important to note that cosmetic surgery is not a substitute for healthy lifestyle choices. It is also important to choose a qualified and experienced surgeon to minimize the risk of complications.

Plastic surgery can be an effective way to improve both function and appearance. Regardless of the type of surgery chosen, it is important to do thorough research and choose a qualified and experienced surgeon to achieve the best possible results.

Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive surgery aims to restore function and appearance to a damaged or deformed part of the body. This can be after an accident, a medical condition or a congenital anomaly.

Examples of reconstructive surgery include breast reconstruction after breast cancer, facial reconstruction after a serious injury, and nose or ear reconstruction after an accident.

The process at Klinikk A

The process of plastic surgery includes three main steps: Consultation, Surgery and Rehabilitation. Our team will be with you all the way from the first contact.

1. Consultation

Before a person can undergo plastic surgery, they must first undergo a consultation with a plastic surgeon. During the consultation, the surgeon will evaluate the person's medical history, physical condition and wishes for the procedure.

The surgeon will also discuss the different options available and what to expect both during and after the operation. This also includes costs and any risks and complications that may arise.

2. Operation

The operation itself will vary depending on the procedure to be performed. The surgeon will ensure that the patient receives general anesthesia, i.e. general anesthesia, or local anesthesia, depending on what is best suited for the procedure.

During the operation, the surgeon will make the necessary cuts and adjustments to achieve the desired result. They will also monitor the person's vital signs and make sure your safety is taken care of throughout the procedure.

3. Rehabilitation

After surgery, you will need time to recover and recuperate. The surgeon will give you instructions on how to care for your wounds and any dressings.

You will also need to take pain medication and avoid physical exertion for a certain period of time. Your surgeon will also schedule follow-up appointments to make sure you're on the road to recovery and that everything is going as planned.

Plastic surgery can be an effective way to improve the appearance or function of a person's body. However, it is important to remember that it is a surgical procedure and there is always some risk associated with it. It is therefore important to choose an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon and to follow all instructions to minimize the risk of complications.

The history of plastic surgery

Plastic surgery has a long history stretching back to ancient times. In ancient India and Egypt, reconstructive surgery was performed on the noses and ears of people who had lost them in accidents or war.

In the Middle Ages, it was common to perform reconstructive surgery on people who had been maimed or injured in wars. Surgeons used techniques such as skin grafting and tissue expansion to repair the damage.

In the 19th century, the first cosmetic surgeries were performed, such as facelifts and breast reductions. In the middle of the 20th century silicone breast implants developed, and this led to an increase in the popularity of breast enlargement.

Today, plastic surgery is an established medical specialty that includes both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive plastic surgery is performed to repair accidental injuries, burns and congenital deformities. Cosmetic surgery is performed to improve appearance and includes procedures such as breast augmentation, liposuction and nose jobs.

Plastic surgery has come a long way since ancient times, and new techniques and procedures are constantly being developed. It's important to remember that plastic surgery is a medical procedure and that there are always risks involved. It is therefore important to choose an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon if you are considering undergoing surgery.

How can I find the best plastic surgeon for me?

The most important thing when choosing a plastic surgeon is that you, as a patient, find a plastic surgeon you trust.

It is important that your needs, wishes and expectations are understood so that there is a mutual understanding of these things between you and your surgeon. During a pre-surgery consultation, it's important that you get answers to any questions you have. You may want to find out how much experience the surgeon has with the treatment in question, and whether there are other or complementary treatments that may be relevant in your case.

It can also be good to read any feedback on the clinic and the surgeon on the feedback on Google or on legelisten.no

Which plastic surgeries are most common?

The most common plastic surgeries are breast surgery, liposuction, facelift, eyelid plasty, abdominoplasty and correction of loose skin with brachioplasty and thighplasty.

Is plastic surgery safe?

All surgeries carry a risk of complications. This applies to everything from inserting earrings, removing a mole or major surgery. The most common complications associated with surgery are bleeding and infection. All reputable plastic surgery clinics take patient safety very seriously and have good procedures in place to minimize the risk of complications. The most important factors in minimizing the risk of complications are that the surgeon has a lot of experience, that the clinic has good routines and that the patients follow the surgeon's recommendations after surgery.
