Injection treatments for wrinkles

Wrinkle injections are some of the most popular anti-wrinkle treatments on the market today.

Injection is of a well-documented drug which was FDA approved in 1989 and is registered in over 100 countries worldwide.

This has been used for over 15 years and has been shown to have a positive effect on reducing wrinkles and lines in the skin.

You can easily combine wrinkle treatment with other skin or injection treatments, such as Profhilo, Dermapen, Restylane or Juvederm.

These treatments also help to reduce wrinkles and volume loss, while giving the skin a firming effect and more even skin tone.

Why do we get wrinkles?

As early as your late 20s, collagen production in the skin decreases.

With increasing age, the skin becomes thinner and less elastic, which over time results in lines and wrinkles on the face. This is particularly noticeable in areas where the muscles are most active, such as the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes.

Early signs of ageing can be caused by many factors including smoking, sun exposure and genetics.

Some also use their muscles more frequently by squinting a lot, while others have more facial expressions by nature.

In other words, you could say that our joys and worries in life contribute to leaving their mark on our facial skin.

How the treatment works

Discussion
When you first come for a consultation, we will sit down with you to discuss your needs, wishes and expectations regarding medical treatment with us.

Tailor-made treatment
Based on this, the therapist tailors an overview of which treatments may be most relevant to you based on what you tell them during the consultation.

Treatment is often carried out on the same day.

Wrinkle treatment with injections
Small and highly diluted doses of product directly into the muscles to smooth out lines and deeper wrinkles. When injecting, you use a
syringe with a very thin needle, which also means that there is little discomfort during the treatment itself.

Duration of treatment
The treatment itself takes between 5-15 minutes, depending on the areas to be treated.

Expected result
Wrinkles are gradually reduced after 4-6 days, and you see an optimal effect after about 2
weeks.

Follow-up appointment
After treatment, it is common for you to return for a follow-up appointment about 2-3 weeks after treatment. You can arrange this with your nurse or doctor after you have had an injection here at the clinic.

Practical information

Before and after pictures
Before and after photos have long been prohibited when it comes to cosmetic surgery in Norway. On 21.3.2023, new guidelines were introduced where before and after photos now also include injection treatments and other cosmetic treatments that penetrate the skin.

Before and after pictures are therefore not posted on our website or other social platforms linked to the clinic. If you want to see pictures of results that have been done, you can access this when you come to a consultation.

Cancellation and cancellation deadline
The consultation with the nurse is free of charge. If you want an appointment with a doctor, this costs NOK 500.

In case of cancellation less than 24 hours in advance, or in case of no-show
NOK 600,- will be charged. This applies to consultations with both doctors and nurses.

Who performs the treatment?
Both cosmetic nurses and doctors perform wrinkle treatments with us. The practitioner always sets aside enough time to make a thorough assessment when you come for a consultation, so that you get the result you are looking for.

Please inform us about this in advance before you come for a consultation.

Other areas that can be treated with injections

Brow lift

A brow lift with injections can contribute to a more alert look around the eyes. Medical injections help to lift the eyebrow slightly, making you look more alert and refreshed. It is important to point out that this will not give the same results as eyelid surgery. If you have a lot of volume loss and loose skin, medical injections may not be the right treatment for you. To assess the best treatment for you, we recommend a consultation with our cosmetic dermatology nurse or one of our plastic surgeons. Book an appointment here.

Munnviker

Wrinkles in the corners of the mouth occur when the skin loses elasticity and resilience in the face over time. The corners of the mouth will gradually sag more against gravity, and at some point the corners of the mouth will naturally point downwards more than they did previously. This can contribute to an expression on the face that does not match the inside.

Treatment with injections is an effective form of treatment that can help reduce acidic corners of the mouth, if the cause is due to strong muscles that help to pull the corners of the mouth downwards.

Lots of visible gums

If the muscles in the upper lip are overactive, you can sometimes show a lot of your gums when you smile. In some cases, patients find this to be cosmetically unsightly and therefore want to adjust this with the help of neurotoxin treatment.

The treatment involves only two small punctures on each side of the nose, which helps the mimic muscles that control the upper lip to relax more. The result of this is that the gums become less visible when smiling.

Tooth grinding - masseter (chewing muscle)

Teeth grinding can be caused by a number of reasons such as stress, anxiety or sleep problems. In some cases, the masseter muscle used for chewing can become wider and more square with excessive use. For some (especially women), this can be perceived as annoying, as the face takes on a more masculine appearance over time. Teeth grinding can also cause wear and tear on teeth, and lead to neck stiffness that contributes to headaches in the morning.

Treatment with toxins can help to reduce these symptoms quickly by relaxing the muscles more. The effect lasts 3-4 months depending on how strong your muscles are. Over time, the muscles will become weaker, which in some people can contribute to a narrower and more feminine face shape.

Lepper

An injection treatment helps to make your lips appear fuller, without the need for fillers. When the product is injected into the muscles around the mouth, the effect is that the upper lip tilts more upwards so that the lip line is more prominent.

Hyperhidrosis - Excessive sweating

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that contributes to increased sweat production regardless of activity level and temperature. The condition is completely harmless, but can affect the self-image and quality of life of the person concerned. When treated with medical injections, the signal transmission from the nerves to the sweat glands is inhibited, so that less sweat is produced. The treatment is completely harmless and the effect lasts from 6 months to 1 year. The treatment can be performed under the arms, in the elbows, on the palms and under the feet.
Many people experience a very good effect from the treatment, but some want a more permanent underarm solution. Our plastic surgeons offer operations that permanently remove the sweat glands under the arms, so that there is a lasting effect.

Frequently asked questions

How does wrinkle treatment work?

In aesthetic treatments, small and highly diluted doses of neurotoxin are injected directly into the muscles to smooth out lines and deeper wrinkles. A syringe with a very thin needle is used for the injection, which also means that there is little discomfort during the treatment itself.
The treatment itself takes between 5-15 minutes, depending on the areas to be treated.

How do I look after treatment?

Immediately after treatment, small red dots may appear on the skin after the needle pricks, but these disappear within 10-20 minutes. Avoid touching the area directly for the next 4-6 hours to prevent bacteria from entering the area. Do not exercise or take a sauna on the same day either, as this can affect the end result. Like many other drugs, these are excreted via the urinary system and are out of the body after just a few days.

How long does the effect of such treatment last?

The effect comes gradually after 3-6 days, but the full effect is not seen until almost 14 days have passed. Duration after treatment is between 3-6 months, as the muscles are able to build up their mobility again. If you want to maintain the result, it is recommended to repeat the procedure 2-3 times a year. In the long term, the depth of the wrinkles will also be reduced, and with regular use, the wrinkles may even disappear completely.

Can there be complications after treatment?

No treatment is without risk, but serious complications are rarely seen. The most common complications after treatment are temporary bruising, redness and slight swelling. In rare cases, you may experience a feeling of heaviness on the eyelid, but this gradually disappears as the effect wears off. In some cases, asymmetry may occur after treatment, but this is corrected free of charge by the therapist after two weeks of treatment.

If you have other questions regarding a wrinkle treatment, we can easily be reached at telephone or by e-mail.

Fact box about Botulinum toxin

Name: Generic name botulinum toxin.

Type of drug: Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic protein substance used in medical and cosmetic applications.

Applications: Botulinum toxin is mainly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles. In medicine, it is also used to treat a number of neurological disorders, such as migraines, muscle spasms and excessive sweating.

Mechanism of action: Botulinum toxin works by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles, resulting in temporary muscle paralysis. This reduces tension in the muscles and can smooth out superficial wrinkles.

Duration of treatment: The effect of wrinkle treatments usually lasts for several months, depending on individual factors and the treatment area. Periodic follow-up treatments are recommended to maintain the results.

Possible side effects: Some common side effects include temporary swelling, redness and tenderness at the injection site. Less commonly, headache, nausea or muscle weakness may occur, but these side effects are usually transient.

Contraindications: The treatment is not recommended for pregnant women, nursing mothers, or those with known allergies to botulinum toxin or other ingredients of the preparation.

Important information: The medication should only be administered by qualified healthcare professionals, such as doctors or nurses with experience in aesthetic treatments. Patients are encouraged to discuss any questions or concerns with their treating healthcare professional prior to treatment.

This information provides a general overview and does not replace professional medical advice. Individual results may vary and consultation with a healthcare professional is recommended prior to treatment.
