A new body, but not completely new skin
After major weight loss, either through weight loss surgery, medications such as Wegovy or Ozempic, or through their own efforts, many people find that their skin does not contract properly.
Loose skin, unevenness, chafing and practical challenges with clothing are common problems. This applies to both surgical and non-surgical weight loss. Find out more about your options here.
Post bariatric plastic surgery includes surgical procedures that remove excess skin and tighten the body after major weight loss. This can be after weight loss surgery such as gastric bypass or gastric sleeve, medical weight reduction or lifestyle changes over time.
In Norway, around 3,000 weight loss operations are performed annually. Of these, about 1/3 undergo plastic surgery afterwards - often several procedures.
Although many people are entitled to an assessment in the public sector, not everyone is offered surgery. At Klinikk A in Oslo, we have extensive experience of plastic surgery after weight loss and offer safe assessment and individually tailored treatment.
Loose skin can occur on different parts of the body, at Klinikk A we can help you whatever your needs. Feel free to contact us for a non-binding consultation.

All surgery involves scars. During the preoperative consultation, we go through the location of the scars and what can be expected in terms of scar development. We are sometimes asked if the scars disappear. They do not disappear, but often the scars heal nicely, making them relatively invisible. It's important to have a realistic expectation of how the scars will look and heal.
Our surgeons have extensive experience of post-bariatric plastic surgery, including from public hospitals responsible for this patient group. This is important to ensure safe and predictable results.

You will receive a specific price at your consultation. The price depends on which procedures are relevant and the extent of each individual procedure. See also our price list here.
Under certain conditions, the public sector can cover plastic surgery after
bariatric surgery. At Klinikk A, we can make an assessment of whether there is a so-called medical indication, and thus the right to assessment at a public hospital. The final decision is made by public authorities.
Well, no. Many people choose to split it up, and that can be safer.
Although the risk is low, all surgery carries the risk of complications, including plastic surgery after weight loss. The following can occur:
Serious complications rarely occur, but it is not possible to give any guarantees against this.
If medically indicated, you are entitled to sick leave. We can clarify this during the consultation before the operation. If there is no medical indication, you are not entitled to sick leave. Nevertheless, there is usually a need to be away from work for a period of time.
How long you should be away from work is also clarified during the consultation.
Choosing surgery is a big decision, but feel free to contact us, so we can talk together and give you a personalized plan, and a safe assessment of the way forward.
